1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. In the original text the word "prove" means "test", the words "hold fast" mean "retain", and the word "good" can mean "valuable". So it seems like the verse is saying something like this: Test all things, and remember the valuable results. (If someone doesn't agree with me feel completely free to say so. I'm extremely open to another view.) I think it's telling us to retain the valuable results of the research we do concerning all things that pertain to the faith; so that when we speak of our faith we can defend and prove it. The word "good" in the verse which can mean "valuable" might seem to people unfamiliar with the validity and consistency of the bible as meaning to only retain the proof, but to ignore the contradictions. This is untrue. It means to say not to digress when it comes to discussing your faith. Mention the important things and ignore the irrelevant unless asked (evasiveness is a real credibility killer), because we have nothing to hide. All in all, make sure you can back up the belief.
