But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1Co_15:57-58)
You will never hear me say or speak on the Way of the Master being drudgery or wearisome... but neither will you hear me speak of it being a bed of roses and a simple "floating through of ease and comfort"... These 2 beautiful verses speak volumes to the daily Walk that we must ascribe to, if we truly desire to walk in HIS footprints...
"Victory"... nikos
nee'-kos
From G3529; a conquest (concretely), that is, (by implication) triumph: - victory.
neither conquest nor triumph come without solid made plans, hard work, perseverance and (by implication) a battle... Our daily walk IS a war, a war with principalities and powers and, even moreso, a war and minute-by-minute battle with our own flesh... but take heart, for to he who perseveres, we are promised the reward of rest in the Master's arms and home... Let us never grow weary in our battle, for HE has given us the strength to overcome the world...
"steadfast" hedraios
hed-rah'-yos
From a derivative of ἕζομαι hezomai (to sit); sedentary, that is, (by implication) immovable: - settled, stedfast.
"immovable" ametakinētos
am-et-ak-in'-ay-tos
From G1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of G3334; immovable: - unmovable.
Solidly planted and unable to be moved... our roots MUST go deep, so that we may ride out the storms this life WILL send our way... And for our roots to grow and take hold?? The shell they are housed in (this flesh) must first die, so that the Spirit may step forth and take root in the Unshakeable rock of Christ Jesus... When we learn to wait upon the Lord, for HIS perfect timing and will, we will succeed and show HIM mighty, it is when we start wandering in our own wisdom and strength that we find defeat and confusion and ruin... Let your Spirit roots go deep, though the breaking of the fallow ground can be so painful and such a toil, the beauty of what blooms forth is immeasurably worth it!!
"abounding" perisseuō
per-is-syoo'-o
From G4053; to superabound (in quantity or quality), be in excess, be superfluous; also (transitively) to cause to superabound or excel: - (make, more) abound, (have, have more)
"work" ergon
er'-gon
From ἔργω ergō (a primary but obsolete word; to work); toil (as an effort or occupation); by implication an act: - deed, doing, labour, work.
Oh how glorious a commission to us... that we should ABOUND (excessively and superfluously) in the work (toil and labour) of the Lord HIMself... that can sound so intimidating and so "works oriented" but let us remember these precious words of the very Saviour WHO gave HIS life for us... "My burden is easy and my yoke is light"... When we will yoke up next to the Lord, how easy and light can be our toils, even in the midst of the exhaustion that we experience... How precious that HE is side by side with us, not simply working alongside, but taking the LEAD role and training us each and every step... That not one step of toil and exertion are we spending alone, but with the very ONE who created the Universe... and us...
"Labor" kopos
kop'-os
From G2875; a cut, that is, (by analogy) toil (as reducing the strength), literally or figuratively; by implication pains: - labour, + trouble, weariness.
wow... Labor pains, toil to the point of reducing your strength, pain, trouble, weariness... NOT what the church in general likes to preach, but we are called to toil for the Master. To birth good works (which having been present for the birth of all 5 of my children, i will testify THAT looks painful and NOT easy). to reduce our strength to the point of weariness... BUT HE has promised that if we wait upon HIM during it all, we will mount up on wings of Eagles, we will run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint... AND that labor (ask any mother) is NOT in vain...
As always, thank you for your time, God Bless you richly in the midst of your daily toil and struggle, be rooted and firmly planted and know the refreshing of the Lord!!
